Royal Palms Terrace | The most private place to propose in Phoenix
Why Royal Palms is one of the most private places to propose in Phoenix
If you're looking for a proposal location that feels private without giving up the luxury experience, Royal Palms is one of my favorite recommendations in Phoenix.
Unlike a traditional restaurant proposal, the private terrace dinner gives you an entire space to yourselves. There's no audience, no neighboring tables, and no feeling like you're putting on a show. Instead, you're able to slow down, enjoy the evening together, and celebrate before jumping into photos.
As someone who photographs proposals throughout Arizona, that's surprisingly rare.
What is the Royal Palms private terrace dinner?
The Royal Palms private terrace dinner experience is a secluded outdoor dining experience tucked away on the property with your own dedicated server.
The evening includes:
A completely private terrace
Personalized dinner service
Romantic candlelight
A fireplace and beautiful landscaping
A quiet setting that's ideal for proposals or anniversaries
If you're planning a surprise proposal, the staff is incredibly helpful with timing and making sure everything happens smoothly.
When Matt reached out, he already had his proposal planned. I just got to witness and capture it! He had reserved the Royal Palms' private terrace in Phoenix, AZ and was looking for someone to discreetly capture the moment without taking away from the experience.
(Side noteβMatt is the most common client name I have. At this point it's become a running joke.)
How we planned the perfect proposal for Matt and Rainah
I've photographed proposals all over Arizona, and I'll be honest: I'm usually not a huge fan of restaurant proposals. They're often crowded, awkward to photograph, and can end up feeling more public than intimate.
This was different.
Royal Palms offers a private terrace experience that's tucked away from the rest of the property. It feels less like proposing at a restaurant and more like having your own little corner of the resort for the evening. As the sun started to set in early February, Matt and his girlfriend were led down a stone pathway to a candlelit terrace with a fireplace, rose petals scattered across the ground, and Camelback Mountain glowing behind the palms. It was quiet enough that the only people there were the two of them and the staff making sure everything unfolded exactly as planned.
That's what makes this location so special. If you're looking for the privacy of proposing at home but still want the experience to feel elevated, this is about as close as you'll find in Phoenix.
What makes Royal Palms such a great proposal location?
After she said yes, we all admired the stunning marquise-cut ring and spent the rest of golden hour wandering the property together.
This is another reason I love Royal Palms. Within a few minutes, you can go from intimate courtyards to textured adobe walls, lush desert landscaping, towering palms, mountain views, ivy-covered pathways, and charming Spanish architecture. It gives your gallery so much variety without ever feeling like you've left the property.
If you're considering proposing at Royal Palms, I genuinely think it's one of the best experiences in Phoenix.
Imagining a custom proposal?
As beautiful as this experience already is, I couldn't help but leave with ideas.
I was there as the photographer, but I kept imagining what this space could become with a little intentional styling.
The fireplace was just asking for florals. The terrace could be lined with candles or a rug leading to your dinner table. Maybe it's your favorite flowers, a custom menu, champagne waiting after the proposal, or details that tell your story as a couple.
The best proposals don't have to be over-the-topβthey just need to feel personal.
Instead of simply showing up with a camera, I want to help couples design an experience that's completely their own. Whether that's understated and elegant or full of romantic details, the goal is always the same: create something that feels like you. If you're dreaming of a proposal that goes beyond the traditional restaurant experience, I'd love to help bring that vision to life.
