Sedona is more than just red rocks and vortexes—it's where I go to chase sunrises, sip a local brew, and hike into caves that feel like portals to another world. Whether you're here to propose, adventure, or just escape the noise, here's my personal guide to experiencing Sedona like a local (with just a little extra trail dust.)
my guide to sedona
Most Popular Trails (for good reason)
These trails are gorgeous, well-maintained, and great intros to Sedona's energy. Just be prepared to share the views:
Cathedral Rock – Short, steep, and delivers a jaw-dropping payoff.
Bell Rock Trail – One of Sedona’s most accessible vortex hikes with epic views even if you don’t climb to the top. Ideal for beginners and sunrise strolls.
Devil’s Bridge – Famous for its natural arch and perfect proposal photo ops.
Seven Sacred Pools & Soldier Pass – A loop that combines water features with cool rock formations.
Airport Mesa Loop – Sweeping 360° views, especially beautiful at sunset.
Subway Cave (Boynton Canyon) – You’ll need to veer off the main trail, but the sunbeams through this sandstone chamber? Pure magic.
My Favorite Hikes (spoiler: caves and views for days)
These hikes range from short adventures to full-day treks with 4x4-required access—and they’re totally worth it if you're craving solitude and epic photo spots.
Bear Mountain – A strenuous but rewarding climb with panoramic views over the Verde Valley. Bring water. Lots of it.
Birthing Cave – A short, steep hike to a heart-shaped cave.
Keyhole Cave – A locals-only spot that requires route-finding and scrambling. The ultimate hidden nook for engagement shoots.
West Clear Creek Trail – Fall colors, crystal-clear water, and fewer crowds. A perfect off-season escape.
Merry-go-round Rock – Known for elopements, this is a hard to reach place that is beyond worth the views
The traffic circles in Uptown and near Tlaquepaque can get wild, especially on weekends. That’s why I usually stay in West Sedona for meals—it’s easier to park, chill, and take in the views without the gridlock.
Local Juicery
I always make a stop for a juice, I just obsess over all the colorful wellness vibes. Plus the bead shop next door is a perfect little side adventure of it’s own.
Famous Pizza
No-frills, post-hike perfection. Big slices, cold beer.
Stagecoach
BBQ meets desert views. Great for happy hour and dinner with friends or double date night.
Colt 45
Amazing BBQ western-spot with good vibes and hearty eats.
Wildflower bread company
A great lunch spot with epic patio views (are you sesing a trend yet?)
if you want to get down with the crazy, here are my other more popular spots that’s worth it in my opinion:
Javelina Cantina
Good vibes and views, great margaritas.
Sedona Beer Company
Craft brews, fun patio with pretty views, and laid-back energy.
Mariposa Grill
If you're celebrating something special (or just want to feel fancy post-hike), Mariposa delivers. Sweeping red rock views, upscale latin-inspired dishes, and the kind of wine list that makes you want to linger a little longer. make a reservation—this spot books up fast.
Butterfly Burger
owned by the same chef as mariposa, this is the cool little sister with a gourmet twist. think juicy burgers, craft cocktails, and stylish diner vibes. perfect for a casual date night or lunch that hits just right after a morning on the trail.
Where I eat after hiking all day
Proposing in Sedona? let’s make it epic.
If you're thinking about popping the question, I’d be honored to help plan the perfect moment. From romantic picnic setups to capturing your “yes” with Sedona's red rocks glowing in the background, it’s what I do.
